Using a flea fogger or a bomb will not individually solve your flea infiltration problem. You will have to use other flea removing products simultaneously. If you have pets in your home, flea collars could be an immediate solution. Even using flea sprays on the pet’s bed before using a flea bomb is a better option.

Pets scratching their skins, having black spots on their fur may have fleas on them. Using various flea removing products like flea shampoos, flea combs will remove fleas from them but temporarily. Those annoying pests will keep on jumping on the animals for their blood meal. To solve a flea problem, you should keep in mind, why and how fleas are keeping on coming back to the pets?

Instead of treating the pet, you should treat the places where pets hang around and sleep. Those are the common places where fleas hide so that they can easily attack the hosts. Certain flea removal products are needed which can reach the tiniest corners of your home where other products can’t reach. Foggers and bombs reach to those places. By reaching there they disrupt the lifecycles of fleas, kill the matured fleas and restrict further flea infestations.

In this section, you will get a thorough knowledge about foggers and flea bombs but first, let us see what are the guidelines on this page.

These are the best 5 flea foggers and bombs according to us. You can click the links to learn about the products or finish reading the article and then choose your best solution.

What is a Flea Fogger or a Flea Bomb? How and Where they are Applied?

A flea fog or a flea bomb is an aerosol insecticide used to kill fleas inside a room by releasing a vaporizing mist. They come in canisters and the mist leaves a layer on different parts of a room. The aerosol insecticide can reach to nooks and corners of the room where other flea-removing products are unable to reach. When you release a fogger or a bomb from the cylindrical canister, the steam bursts and spreads. Certain precautions are needed before using them.

The major ingredients in a flea-fog or a flea-bomb include cypermethrin, etofenprox, tetramethrin, permethrin, S-methoprene, nylar or pyrethrin. Nylar and S-methoprene are insect growth regulators (IGR) that kill the eggs and larvae and the other chemical components kill the matured fleas. Foggers and bombs can be used in various enclosed areas like homes, restaurants, garages, offices, apartments, etc where you have realized that there is an ardent flea problem.

Strict monitoring is required to notice a flea problem. Always wear white tube socks when you are monitoring a particular area for flea infiltration (fleas can jump on to animals and even humans but only up to a height of human ankles). To determine where to put the foggers or bombs, place a bowl of soap mixed water under a source of light (night light is a good example) and on the next day morning if you see dead fleas floating (not drowned) on the bowl, you have found the place where to put the fogger canister.

The fogger or the bomb has instructions written on the product about how far it works and how many canisters you might be needed for a room. Generally, one canister works fine for a room. More than one canister per room or placing them near pilot lights, stoves or ovens can create explosions. Flea eggs do not stick to the skins of your pet, they fall from them and hide in bends and angles of furniture, carpets, and upholsteries. Foggers and bombs are the right products to find and get rid of them.

Fleas Hiding in your Home

Fleas are tiny pests and they can hide even in the tiniest crack or crevice of your house (wooden floors, inner walls). If you have a flea infiltration in your home, you might find them in shoes, clothes, beds, and pillows too. A matured female flea lays near about 40 eggs per day and eggs fall from the skins of your pets, being slippery, to the ground.

They hide in warm and dark places like carpets and beds and larvae come out of them in no time. Larvae too detest light and hide in darker places and weave cocoons around them to enter the pupae stage where they get prepared into becoming adult fleas. Once matured larvae sense a host near them (from the thermal energy released from the body of the host, carbon dioxide or the body heat), they come out from the cocoons and jump on to the host.

The lifecycle of a flea hardly takes 2 to 3 weeks to round up. So you can imagine the concentration of flea infiltration that might happen to your house. In the whole process, finding the eggs and cocoons and killing them becomes a difficult task because they hide inside your house in deepest corners. Foggers and bombs become handy then.

How to Use a Flea Fogger or a Flea Bomb? How Safe are they?

Flea foggers or bombs can really remove fleas from your home but there are some thumb rules which need to be maintained. Follow the instructions:

  • Put out the pilot lights.
  • Switch off all electrical appliances (oven, freezer, toaster).
  • Keep the food in sealed packs and move them from the room.
  • Clean the room and cover the trash cans (No need to clean further after the fogger has done its job).
  • Reassemble all bedding items that each individual component in bedding gets maximum exposure to the mist.
  • Finally, read all instructions on the label f the product, so that no health issue is overlooked.

Flea foggers and bombs are safe for pets and children in your house. But you should take certain measures like opening the windows and doors of the room so that the mist evaporates for at least 1 hour. Make sure pets and children are not near when you set a fogger or bomb.

Remember the aerosol leaves a layer of mist (although vaporizing) on anything they come in contact with. Clean everything in the room with a cloth, be it furniture, upholstery, clothes, drapes, children’s toys and anything that a child may touch. The best time to use foggers or bombs is when you are off on a holiday.

Foggers settle on carpets and the products with IGR affect the eggs and pupae hiding inside the carpets. It is not advisable to clean the carpets as you would clean the other parts of the room. So, once you are out of the house, setting the fogger, let it do it’s work till you come back. Once you are back open all windows and doors, take some time and then settle in the house.
