In the second phase of the research, the infected bed bugs were kept with healthy mice to check whether they can transmit the parasite back to them. The result was shocking indeed, 75% of mice (9 out of 12) were affected by the parasite.

The research was conducted throughout 30 days, with 12 mice and 20 infected bed bugs. So, now we know that bed bugs can transmit a parasite which can cause Chagas disease.
